NAAC
NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (NAAC) is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. It is an outcome of the recommendations of the National Policy in Education (1986) which laid special emphasis on upholding the quality of higher education in India. To address the issues of quality, the National Policy on Education (1986) and the Plan of Action (POA-1992) advocated the establishment of an independent national accreditation body. Consequently, the NAAC was established in 1994 with its headquarters at Bengaluru.
NAAC, Bengaluru has given five core values to be fulfilled by the Higher Education Institution. The values are

- Promoting the Use of Technology
- Quest for Excellence
In addition to these values the institution has given emphasis on the inculcation of human values among the students through various activities conducted throughout the academic year.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council advocates the establishment of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) by all the accredited institutions as a post accreditation quality sustenance activity.
IQAC
In pursuance of its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality up-gradation of institutions of higher education, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure; accordingly in Dec. 2003 IQAC has been established. Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will become a part of the institution’s system and work towards realization of the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the overall performance of institutions.
Objectives
The primary aim of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the academic and administrative performance of institution.
- Designing and implementing annual plans for institution-level activities for quality enhancement.
- Arrange for feedback responses from students for quality related institutional process.
- Development and application of quality benchmark/parameters for the various academic and administrative acctivities of the institution.
- Retrieval of information on various quality parameters of higher education and best practices followed by other institutions.
- Organisation of workshops and seminars on quality related themes and promotion of quality circles and institution-wide dissemination of the proceedings of such activities.
- Development and application of innovative practices in various programmes/activities leading to quality enhancement.
- Participation in the creation of a learner-centric environment conductive for quality education.
- Work for the development of internalization and institutionalization of quality enhancement policies and practices.
- Act as a nodal unit of the institution for augmenting quality-related activities.
- Prepare focused Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQARs).
Strategies
IQAC shall mechanism and procedures for: Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic, administrative and financial task. Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching, learning and evaluation. Ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and functioning of the support structure.
Functions
Same of the functions expected of the IQAC are:
- Development and application of quality benchmarks/parameters for the various academic and administrative activities of the institution.
- Dissemination of information on the various quality parameters of higher education.
- Organization of workshops, seminars on quality related themes and promotion of quality.
- Documentation of the various programmes/activities leading to quality improvement.
- Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to be submitted to NAAC based on quality parameters.
