About Department

The Department’s beginning
The society initially started its faculty of science in Sitabai Arts College with Mathematics Stream in 1958.The faculty of science was separated as an independent Science College on 1st April 1970 and named after the donorSeth Radhakisan Laxminarayan Toshniwal.

The Physics department was established with B.Sc. Course in correspondence with an independent Science College in 1970. The department started its development with limited infrastructure and facilities under the able leadership of Prof. R. M Deshmukh as the head of the department.Prof A. S. Shirwadkar, followed in the footsteps of Prof. R. M. Deshmukh as the head of the department, followed byProf. R. D. Chaure, Prof. A. N. Bannore, Prof. R. K. Jambhorkar,Prof. V. B. Rajurkar,Prof. D.R. Dongaonkar,and Prof M. S. Tapi.

Progression of the Department 
The Postgraduate program started in2021-2022. The Diploma Course in Astronomy was introduced in the year 2020-2021under the department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Sant Gadge Baba Amaravati University, Amravati.

Current Status 
Currently Shri P. P. Gedam is occupying the chair of Head, with a young, enthusiastic, and energetic team of two faculty members. The department has separate well-equipped U.G. laboratories, a dark room, and P.G. Laboratories. The faculties of the department are using advanced teaching techniques. Many students excelled in the results of S.G.B.A.U. Amravati with Gold Medals and Merit Certificates. Several students have cleared the competitive examinations. The alumni of the department are well-placed in prestigious positions at various institutions, organizations, establishments, and enterprises.

Remarkable Features 
Designing of indigenous laboratory equipment, Use of Virtual Labs, e- Academic Management System, NET/SET/GATE/JAM exam guidance, Bridge Course and Remedial Coaching for slow learners. Night Sky Observation Facility (A telescope “Sky watcher-8-inch flex Dobsonians Newtonian reflecting telescope, Refractor Telescope, Sextant, Two Binoculars (7 X 50 and 7 X 35), Star Dials, Green Laser Beam, Astronomical Gallery and Model, Celestial Glob.)
