Shri Radhakisan Laxminarayan Toshniwal College of Science dedicates itself to the cause of Science Education and Propagation of Scientific Temper among the students. It seeks to mould a student into a multifaceted person with a pragmatic mind and a humane outlook capable of facing the challenges of the 21st Century. Shri R.L.T. College of expects every student entering its portal to be a disciplined, hardworking, well read member of the community ready to give one’s best of the country.

About College

In the year 1958, Seth Radhakisan Laxminarayan Toshniwal gave a donation of Rs.50,000/- to the B.G.E. Society, Akola to start an independent Science College in his name. The society initially started its faculty of science in Sitabai Arts College with Mathematics Stream. The Biology Section was added in 1966. The faculty of Science was separated as an independent Science College on 1st April 1970 and named after the donor.Thus, the generosity of late Seth Radhakisan Laxminarayan Toshniwal opened avenues for our students to brighten up their academic career.

Principal’s Desk

It gives me immense pleasure to pen a few words about our college. Shri R. L. T. College of Science, Akola affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati was established under “The Berar General Education Society, Akola” on 1st April 1970.
Recently the college celebrated its Golden Jubilee Year in 2019-20 by conducting 50 projects related to curricular, extra-curricular, sports & social activities. The college is reaccredited by NAAC with “A” grade having CGPA-3.12 in 3rd cycle. College has 14 U.G; 8 P.G. departments and Ph.D. in 6 subjects, Career Oriented Programs like CCLT, DCLT, Diploma in Sericulture & Astronomy.
Our college is one of the premier institutions delivering excellent education through dedicated collaborative efforts achieving towards recognitions and honor at National and International Levels. As part of NEP-2020 college has adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) which is helpful in getting large number of employment opportunities to students.
The college has effective curriculum planning conducted number of certificate courses during last 5 years. Curriculum enrichment and feedback system enhance the learning effectiveness. College has effective teaching learning and evaluation system. Students’ centric methods are used for enhancing learning experiences using ICT tools.
Excellent teaching staff and good performance of student are the special features. The college has excellent pass percentage and have produced 33 merits in last 5 years.
During Covid Pandemic college conducted teaching learning activities effectively through e-pathshala. Institution has created an Ecosystem for Innovation and organised number of workshops seminars and conferences. Teachers published many research papers in National and international journals. Students regularly participate in Avishkar activities, which is a research festival conducted by university.
Extension activities are carried out in the community and college received 44 awards. NCC & NSS units conducted many activities through extension and outreach programs. During last 5 years, college received three times Swachhata awards. College has 17 MoUs. College has adequate infrastructure and physical facilities including Library and IT infrastructure.
College has been spending huge amount of expenditure on augmentation and maintenance of the infrastructure. 70% students get benefit by scholarship and freeship. College has active Alumni Association which contributes significantly to the development of the institution through financial and other supports. Physical Education Department is vibrant and students’ participation in sports and cultural programs is highly remarkable. College has excellent governance leadership and management which is in accordance with vision and Mission of the college.
Effective welfare schemes and teachers’ participation in Faculty Development Programs is remarkable. IQAC is fully functional and conducted large number of activities during last 5 years. Institution has been conducting regular quality audits, celebrating Important Days having social reviews and has large number of best practices.
Institutional distinctiveness is to promote innovation and inspiring young minds as a part of propagation of scientific temperament. Participation and registration of college under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Program run by Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India is a unique activity.
The college is advancing towards quality enhancement and defining the elements of higher education through a combination of self and external quality evaluation, promotion and sustenance initiatives.

CLT Course: Sanctioned by U.G.C. started from 2008 – 2009. These are add-on one year courses & CCLT, DCLT, & ADCLT can be completed along with B.Sc.-I, B.Sc.-II & B.Sc.-III respectively.

Diploma in Sericulture (6 months): Affiliated by Department of Lifelong learning and Extension, Sant Gadage Baba Amravati University, Amravati. (Any person above 18 years can get admission.)
Diploma in Astronomy (6 months): Affiliated by Department of Lifelong learning and Extension, Sant Gadage Baba Amravati University, Amravati. (Eligibility criteria 12 Std.)

Green Campus Policy & Green Audit Reports

Shri R.L.T. College of Science is very much aware of its responsibility towards keeping campus green and pollution free. The college strives hard to maintain an eco-friendly ambiance and achieve continuous improvement in environmental performance. In college campus and botanical garden of college different varieties of plants has been cultivated without use of chemical pesticides and herbicides. All stakeholders works for the betterment of eco-friendly campus including air, water, noise, soil quality, waste management, care for flora & fauna in campus, the importance of paperless working, plans for adopting solar powered energy sources etc. Internal Green and Environmental audit committee as well as Energy audit committee of College plan and vwork to foster a culture of self-sustainability and make the entire campus environmental friendly.
