About Department

The department of Biochemistry, established in 1997, nurtures students to be successfully placed in various industries such as research, clinical, healthcare, food, pharmaceutical, and agriculture.The department offers UG and PG programs in Biochemistry. Through these programmes, the department endeavors to provide students with excellent training in Biochemistry emphasizing on solid foundation along with insight into basic as well as advanced concepts. In addition to theoretical knowledge, emphasis is given on hands-on experience in the forefront areas of Biochemistry through practical training. Well-equipped laboratories and dedicated faculty aid in accomplishing this successfully. Since its establishment, the department has believed in 360-degree growth of students and has produced individuals of holistic persona. It consistently thrives to expand its canvas of achievements. The graduates and postgraduates from the department have a plethora of opportunities waiting for them. The department also takes pride of its exceptional alumni who are well placed and extend constant support to the department.

Beginning

The department was pioneered by Dr. Y.A. Ali, Dr. U. K. Bhalekar, and Dr. V.D. Nanoty, who established the experiential learning culture and worked devotedly for the upliftment of the subject and department. From 1997, department offers UG in Biochemistry. Since its establishment, the subject received immense response from students and the department flourished with new instruments and infrastructure. Various novel awareness campaigns and activities became a part of the social culture of the department.Dr. V.D. Nanoty, who chairs as the Principal since 2008, continues to be the strongest pillar in promoting Biochemistry at university and national level. He extends his support in all academic and social activities of the department. He is currently the chairman of board of studies for Biochemistry including Microbiology and Food Scienceof SGB Amravati University, Amravati. He has been appointed by SGB Amravati University, Amravati as resource person for CBCS implementation workshops.Dr. Y. A. Ali later continued imparting education in Jazan University, Saudi Arabia while Dr. U.K. Bhalekar retired in 2020.

Progression

Considering the overwhelming response from the students, PG Biochemistry was initiated in the 2021. To fulfill the need of students, a PG Biochemistry laboratory was also constructed. The laboratory is equipped with basic instrumentation and envisions to become one of the finest labs in the university.

Current Status

As the department advanced, Dr. Harish S. Malpani, who heads department of Microbiology, was assigned an additional responsibility as the head (in-charge) of Biochemistry. He continues to bring new glory to the department with his innovative ideas and pedagogical skills. He is an authorized master trainer ofeffective teaching by enquiry-based pedagogical tools and key principles of National Education Policy 2020. He has been appointed by SGB Amravati University, Amravati as resource person for CBCS implementation workshops. He is also a member of districtBiodiversity board Akola, constituted by Government of Maharashtra andworks for creating environment consciousness amongst students and society.

To cater to the current generation, multi-modal pedagogical tools are incorporated in the teaching learning process along with overall mentoring.
