About Department

The department of Mathematics has been in existence since the inception of this college in 1970. Department started its journey with B.Sc. With the sincere and dedicated efforts of its founder teachers, the department started M.Sc. in 1974. This college is the unique nongovernment institute in the region of SGBAU where M.Sc.  Mathematics is granted (since 1974).

 The department of Mathematics had a humble beginning. Prof. M. G. Joshi, first Principal of Shri R.L.T. College of Science, Akola, Prof.  W.G. Naikwade, Prof. N.V.Bhat, Prof. A.B.Digambar , Prof. Sule, Prof.V.L.Ruiwale, Dr. S.M.Padhye, Dr. S.S.Utgikar and Dr. S.W.Bhaware contributed their valuable  contribution for the development of the department. They all have taken efforts to develop the department and the result is that every year college students got merit in university examinations.

The research activity in Mathematics was started in department since from 5th March 1991 under the Supervision of  Dr. S.M. Padhye.  Under his guidance total 10 students got their M. Phil. degree and 7 students got their Ph.D. degree from the department.

Currently Dr. S.B.Tadam is the Head of the department and besides Dr.S.L.Munde is a faculty member. Along with this, the department has a well qualified and experienced CHB staff  Dr. S.A.Mohta, Ms. S.S.Mhaske and Ms. K.R.Sharma.

Total seven students stood in the merit list of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati during the last five years 2017-18 to 2021-22. Total seven students of the department qualified NET/SET exam.

 Along with the teaching, faculty members are actively engaged in research by participating in conference/seminars. Our faculty members are also ahead in the academic activities like University exam paper setting, paper valuation, moderation etc.  

 A regular practise of the department is Regional Mathematics Olympiad examination. A Regional Mathematics Olympiad examination organized by Bhaskaracharya  Pratishthan  is conducted by the department every year for the students of  9th , 10th and 11th standard of the Amravati region.The department also took active part in interdisciplinary course Bio-informatics offered by other department.

It’s a pleasure to report here that the Alumni of the department are well placed in prestigious positions at various sectors like institutions, Govt. sectors, industries, etc.
